4As redoubles training efforts to support the industry while scoring successes through continued advocacy

The Association of Accredited Advertising Agents Malaysia (4As) has announced a slew of free training webinars during the MCO period when many agency staff are working from home.

Khairudin Rahim, 4As CEO said, “In recognition of the financial, emotional and physical impact that Covid-19 is having on our Member Agencies and their employees, we have leveraged on our established international and industry partnerships to offer free access to online training for home-based learning.”

Following on from the IPA UK Commercial Certificate that was offered free during April 2020, 4As Malaysia is now able to offer access to additional courses from the American Advertising Agencies Association (also known as 4A’s).

These hour-long webinars will be presented live during May 2020 (Malaysian dates and times):

  • Virtual Presentation Skills on Saturday May 9, 2020, 2.00am
  • How to Brief Work-from-Home Teams on Friday May 15, 2020, 2.00am
  • 7 Things You can Learn by Talking to Your Clients, on Wednesday May 20, 2020, 2.00am

The following pre-recorded webinars can be accessed at any time

  • Working from Om: Stretch and refresh to reduce anxiety while working from home
  • Working from Home Successfully
  • Working from Home With Kids

All the webinars and other online resources can be accessed via the 4A’s (US) website https://www.aaaa.org/professional-and-organizational-development.

“The work of the 4As continues to be essential, especially as our industry is facing unprecedented challenges,” said 4As President Andrew Lee. “Whether it is through offering online courses to promote continuous staff training, or engaging in advocacy work, the 4As is focused on assisting its Member Agencies with both day-to-day and big-picture issues.”

He further cited several recent successes in the area of advocacy against unfair business practices.

“The 4As previously challenged unethical clauses in Request-for-Proposals (RFP) documents which claimed ownership of intellectual property (IP) in terms of ideas, plans and work product described in the proposals regardless of which agency wins the pitch,” said Lee.

“In another instance, the 4As took a stand against the imposition of tender fee requirements by some government linked companies,” Lee added. “These efforts have resulted in companies such as Tenaga Nasional Berhad and UMW Corporation Sdn Bhd removing requirements for Tender Fees or Tender Deposits from their processes, while others such as Maybank Bhd, Malaysian Healthcare Travel Council, KPJ Healthcare Bhd, Cyberview Sdn Bhd, and Iskandar Investment Bhd have removed clauses claiming ownership of pitch generated IP from their RFPs.”

“And as of April 24, in consideration of the MCO, the Censorship Board had agreed to accept online submissions for Television Commercials.” Lee concluded.
